CCID is pursuing research on several additional viruses and prions implicated in neuropsychiatric illnesses: Some of these viruses, e.g. SV-40, have been identified as vaccine contaminants. Parvovirus B19 has been associated with a number of childhood diseases and more recently with autoimmune and encephalopathic illnesses. HHV-6 reactivation can occur in brains of patients with multiple sclerosis. Specialized testing for these viruses is available within the Clinical Laboratory. For more information, please click on the virus of interest or on prion.
